Description

The Tenson Nunataq jacket and pants functional design ticks all the boxes in terms of design, fit and functionality and the name itself originates from our adventurous history and the Inuit word for the summit or ridge of a mountain that protrudes from an ice field or glacier.

Designed and reinforced with Dyneema® fiber (15 times stronger than steel!) in a tough lightweight 3-layer stretch fabric powered with our proprietary Tenson MPC Extreme X Technology (WP 20.000mm / MP 20.000 g/m2/24h).

The applied Tenson design strategy is a cross-over holistic strategy resulting in a multi-purpose allrounder pant designed for skiing, mountaineering, hiking and everyday life - one extremely durable pant for all your outdoor adventures.

The Tenson Nunataq Pants are designed and reinforced with Dyneema® fiber (15 times stronger than steel!) in a tough, 3-layer lightweight stretch fabric with a supple feel and comes powered with our proprietary Tenson MPC Extreme technology (WP 20,000 mm / MP 20,000 g/m2/24h). The pants fabric repels rain, snow, and ice with ease.

They come with an adjustable waist and are equipped for tackling challenging terrain. The pre-shaped articulated knees are designed to enable the perfect smooth fit. Zippers along the entire side of the leg allow easy access and removal. Protective enough for year-round use, lightweight enough to be stashed in a pack, the Tenson Nunataq Pants are true all-rounders for an array of mountain pursuits, not to mention your regular outdoor weekend.

The Dyneema® fibers unmatched strength-to-weight ratio and outstanding abrasion resistance and durability were a pivotal reason for us choosing yarn and fabric technology. Dyneema® reinforced fabrics are an ideal solution for outerwear that requires a fabric that need to be extremely light yet withstand the rough handling the fabrics are subject to.

So, why the name Tenson Nunataq? Why the Greenland narrative?

As part of our brands differentiation strategy where we celebrate our ad-venturous history, we decided to reconnect with a legendary Tenson ambassador personality who cut his teeth in the wilds of Greenland.

The Tenson & Ronald Naar partnership lasted well over a decade, the Swedish Outdoor Brand equipping the Dutch mountaineer with apparel made in fabrics to conquer the extreme conditions he was subjected to. Ronald was the first Dutch climber to complete the Seven Summits. He was born in The Hague and was an active climber from the 1970s onwards. Ronald died in 2011 while climbing Cho Oyu in Tibet.

EVER SINCE HIS FIRST EXPEDITION to Greenland in 1987, mountaineer and polar explorer Ronald Naar nursed the idea of crossing the Greenland ice cap on skies. However, for Mr Naar one challenge was simply not enough which was why he eventually combined two of his passions - mountaineering and skiing in one expedition. Ronald and two fellow explorers were dropped at the Watkins Moun-tains on the east coast of the island where he began his expedition by climbing the highest mountain in the Arctic region - the 3.694m high Gunnbjœrn Fjell. After that he crossed the Lindbergh Mountains and the Gronau Nonatakker and subsequently traversed the Greenland ice cap at its highest and widest point using skies and parasails. This was the first time anyone had attempted such an adventure and the expedition managed to cross Greenland in 38 days but the team was unsupported for 44 days! Respect.

The name Nunataq originates from the Inuit (The Greenlandic indigenous people) word for the summit or ridge of a mountain that protrudes from an ice field or glacier that otherwise covers most of the mountain or ridge, also known as glacial islands, the 3.694m high Gunnbjœrn Fjell is such a mountain.
